Driving up the Kalamata-Sparta road, you will come across several scenic clearings offering panoramic views of the entire city and the Messinian Gulf. As the sun sets behind the mountains of Pylia, bathing Kalamata in sunset colors, is a photographer’s dream.
Even in summer, temperatures on Mount Taygetos are noticeably lower. Always bring a light jacket and sturdy hiking shoes.
Main trails (such as the E4) are well-marked, however, using a map or hiking with a local guide is always recommended, especially for more remote routes.
